Requirements for Registering as a Sex Offender

If you have been recently convicted of crime of a sexual nature, then you may be required to register as a sex offender in the state of Florida. The reason for this is so that the state of Florida can keep any potential victims, as well as past victims, and their families safe from sexual predators. Many believe that sexual offenders need only to supply their name and location, as well as birth date, but this is not true. As a sexual offender in the state of Florida, there are quite a few required bits of personal information that you will be required to provide for the safety of others.

Crimes That May Constitute Sex Offender Registration

Rape is not the only crime that can and will require you to register as a sexual offender. There are a number of crimes including “crimes of passion” that require the offender to register in the Florida sex offender data base.

The crimes that will require registration include the following:

  • Sexual battery
  • Date rape
  • Statutory rape
  • Kidnapping
  • Child pornography
  • Child molestation
  • Child prostitution
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual acts performed by a child
  • Illegal sexual activity with minor children
  • False imprisonment
  • The buying and/or selling of minor children
  • Public exposure
  • Public nudity
  • Lewd or lascivious behavior in public

The Requirements for Registering as a Sex Offender in Florida

As a convicted sex offender in the state of Florida, you will be required by law to provide a large quantity of personal and previously private information for the public eye. Below is a list of requirements as pertains to registering as any class of sex offender. Know that most of the information will be provided for the public to view at will, for safety reasons and purposes.

You will have to relinquish the following information:

  • Name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your social security number
  • Your race, sex, weight, height and any identifying physical features, including tattoos or piercings
  • Your photograph (most current, may be taken by the police)
  • A set of fingerprints
  • Most current address of residence, both in state and out of state
  • Your most current occupation and place of employment
  • Brief description of the crimes committed
  • Institution of higher education (if applicable)
  • Telephone number
  • Electronic email address
  • Instant message name
